Communication, culture and teens
Teens communicate their ideas in a vernacular which borders on the substandard or even slang. Classroom communication, on the other hand, represents a specific kind of discourse not found in the contexts outside of the classroom. In this talk I will look at the features of both in order to see the potential points of convergence. I will also try to prove that focusing on communicating culture, i.e. paying attention to intercultural communication in the English classroom, may arouse interest in the learners and foster their communicative competence.
